Will You Conform?

Today was my uncle's graduation from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). It was outside in the city of Providence close to where the school's buildings actually are. There were 600 graduates and a couple thousand friends and family members there. It was one extremely HOT day and we were there for over 4 hrs. The mayor was there and he gave a speech to the future alumni. He said that he hoped that they would not all leave Providence and that even if they did it would only be for a short time. He wanted Providence, a mid-sized city, to continue advancing. Yet, I knew, as well as anyone else that the graduates would leave Providence. From Graphic Design to Industrial Design, those graduates as one person put it "would bring the world into the new era". As I sat looking at the 600 faces I realized that this statement was true. One graduate gave a speech and in his speech he said he did not want to be like everyone else and obtain a great job/statis and forget about the dreams he had before he graduated. One 98yr. old alumni/teacher told the graduates not to "try and be different" but to give the world what they have.
"Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your minds." In a world full of 'knowledge' the Church shrinks from that very thing. Yet, we are called to grow in wisdom. The world says to not "try and be different" but we are commanded not to conform.
You are sitting in a room full of students young and old...do you stand out...or are you just another 'one' of the million conforming to the 'Mindset'?
